Parent Education Group
This 6-week psycho-educational group is for parents whose children are affected by parental mental health and/or substance use, regardless of whether the parent attending has mental health or substance use issues themselves. The group aims to help parents foster resiliency in their children through attachment parenting. We focus educating parents to assist in building stronger bonds between parents and themselves and their children. We also support parents to learn how to talk about mental health and addiction issues with children and others in the child’s life. The content of this group is relevant to parents of children up to age of 18. Dinner is provided, as is child care if required.
All referrals are accepted if the parent feels mental illness or substance use from a family member is impacting their parenting or their family’s health and well-being. If additional support is required, we work with individual families to offer them direct support, as well as connect them with others supports in the community. Some parents in the past have expressed an interest in continual connection and support with other parents in similar situations. When there is enough interest in this type of support, we offer Parent Support Group. Please click here to read more about it.
